On the 26th of January Het Nieuwe Instituut will open the new exhibition programme in the Museum for Architecture, Design and Digital Culture, including the exhibitions Designing the Surface, Sleep Mode. The Art of the Screensaver, Architecture of Appropriation and The Transylvanian Archive.
Designing the Surface
Paints, coatings and other surface treatments play an essential role in the appreciation of materials and objects, adding layers that not only decorate, but can also strengthen, preserve or disguise. The exhibition Designing the Surface by designers Chris Kabel and Koehorst in ‘t Veld focuses on the often overlooked yet crucial role of surface.
Sleep Mode. The Art of the Screensaver
Internet artist Rafaël Rozendaal presents an immersive space that serves as a stage for the virtually lost medium of screensavers and the people who made them. The visitor to Sleep Mode. The Art of Screensavers enters into an infinite, ever-changing landscape of abstract panoramas.
Architecture of Appropriation
In a time when a programmatic approach to the city is once again topical, Het Nieuwe Instituut initiates an investigation into squatting as the architecture of appropriation. The first results are shown in the spatial installation Architecture of Appropriation, by design bureau ZUS [Zones Urbaines Sensibles].
