Four Walls and a Roof is a collection of essays grouped in seven sections that reflect on the myths commonly associated with the architecture profession: the architect’s authority, his or her reliance on individual inspiration, a commitment to good causes, control, independence from external powers, mastery of the large scale and, ultimately, progress.

The book brings together reflections on the current state of architecture as well as personal accounts of OMA’s projects. Reinier de Graaf reveals the world of contemporary architecture in vivid snapshots: from suburban New York to the rubble of northern Iraq, from the corridors of wealth in London, Moscow and Dubai to garbage-strewn wastelands that represent the demolished hopes of post-war social housing. The evening will conclude with a book signing.

The book is published by Harvard University Press.
