Only Surviving Model by Theo van Doesburg Acquired for the National Collection22 MARCH 2021
Het Nieuwe Instituut has acquired a model of an interior by Theo van Doesburg for the National Collection for Dutch Architecture and Urban Planning. It is a design for one of the most important architectural projects of De Stijl: the cinema-cum-dance hall in the Aubette building in Strasbourg (1928). It is also the only model by Van Doesburg to survive. The acquisition has been made possible by contributions from the Mondriaan Fund, the Vereniging Rembrandt and Galerie Gmurzynska.

The advent of the Museum Boijmans van Beuningen depot has prompted the City of Rotterdam to make the outdoor space in and around the Museum Park greener, while reducing traffic. These initiatives have consequences for the accessibility of Het Nieuwe Instituut as well as the appearance of its immediate surroundings.
More-than-Human Among Best Dutch Book Designs 20204 MARCH 2021
More-than-Human has been selected as one of the Best Dutch Book Designs of 2020! Het Nieuwe Instituut congratulates designers Adriaan Mellegers and Vanessa van Dam, printer Cassochrome and the entire team.The book includes visions by various authors on a more equal and climate-fair world: a world in which the connections and conflicts of humans and non-human species are no longer approached only from the human perspective. The book was published in collaboration with the Office for Political Innovation, the Serpentine Galleries’ General Ecology and the Manifesta Foundation.

The Critical Visitor - Important Subsidy Allocation by NWO Smart Culture20 SEPTEMBER 2019
Het Nieuwe Instituut is a partner within The Critical Visitor, a research project that investigates how heritage institutions can bring about new forms of inclusiveness and accessibility through their organisation, collections and exhibition policy. The project has received a €500,000 NWO Smart Culture grant. The five-year research project is being conducted by a consortium of fifteen cultural and scientific institutions.

Over the next six years, Het Nieuwe Instituut is busy making the architecture collection visible through restoration, conservation and digitisation. One of the elements of the Closer to Architecture programme is the Linked Open Data (LOD) project. LOD has reached its first milestone by making collections materials available online via Collectie Nederland (the Dutch National Collection).
