The Critical Visitor - Important Subsidy Allocation by NWO Smart Culture

Het Nieuwe Instituut is a partner within The Critical Visitor, a research project that investigates how heritage institutions can bring about new forms of inclusiveness and accessibility through their organisation, collections and exhibition policy. The project has received a €500,000 NWO Smart Culture grant. The five-year research project is being conducted by a consortium of fifteen cultural and scientific institutions.

Het Nieuwe Instituut’s collection available via Collectie Nederland

Over the next six years, Het Nieuwe Instituut is busy making the architecture collection visible through restoration, conservation and digitisation. One of the elements of the Closer to Architecture programme is the Linked Open Data (LOD) project. LOD has reached its first milestone by making collections materials available online via Collectie Nederland (the Dutch National Collection).

Art on Display 1949-69: Albini, Bo Bardi, Scarpa, Smithsons, Van Eyck

On Friday 8 November 2019, the exhibition Art on Display 1949-69 will open at the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum in Lisbon. This exhibition is the result of a partnership between Het Nieuwe Instituut/Jaap Bakema Study Centre and the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum. It will be on show in Lisbon until March 2020, after which it will get a follow-up at Het Nieuwe Instituut.

 

‘Closer to Architecture’. Masterplan for the disbursement of 11 million euros

On 17 July, Minister Ingrid van Engelshoven of the Department of Education, Culture and Science (OCW) issued a disbursement letter based on the 'Closer to Architecture’ masterplan officially allocating the first half of the 11 million euros awarded in March for the restoration, conservation and digitisation of Het Nieuwe Instituut’s collection. 

Call For Fellows 2018

Het Nieuwe Instituut announces an open call for three research fellows to work in residence from September 2018 to February 2019. For the Call for Fellows 2018, the Research Department has selected the theme of BURN-OUT, and has invited 2017 fellow Ramon Amaro to be the guest curator of the Call.

A Speculative Archive for Dutch Design

Het Nieuwe Instituut evokes the image of a possible design archive, and thus creates a means to stimulate the involvement of various parties in the process, from the national government to the general public.

Ministry of Education, Culture and Science invests 11 million euros in architectural collection at Het Nieuwe Instituut

Automated Landscapes at Art Basel

On 31 March 2018 Het Nieuwe Instituut presents Automated Landscapes as part of the Conversations series of Art Basel in Hong Kong. Speakers include Marina Otero Verzier (Het Nieuwe Instituut), Merve Bedir (Future+ Aformal Academy), Marisa Yiu (Design Trust Hong Kong), Aric Chen (M+ Hong Kong), Karel Eloot (tbc) (McKinsey & Company) and De Kai (HKUST).
